Gratitude

I'd prefer to keep this personal.

Thank you Sir, you are synonymous to Singapore. Wherever I travelled, you would always be brought up in the conversations I have with the locals. The way their eyes glimmered as they mentioned your name and your brilliance.. I am truly proud to be your fellow Singaporean.

You made a name for yourself and more awesomely, you took what used to be an unassuming little red dot to the global stage. Without you, who would ever notice us? Comparing the size of the country to the recognition that we have now, I have to say, the amount of effort you have put in is really beyond imaginable to this ignorant girl here.

I secretly hate anti-PAP comments because those that I've heard only blame and forget about the much greater good that have benefited us all. I am thankful for being able to sashay my way to get groceries on late nights, always having so much faith that nothing bad would happen to me (the worst thing that've ever happened was stepping on a pool of vomit). Amongst all the other good things, we definitely owe such level of security to you.

When I saw those tweets on the train to school, tears welled up a little too much. Anybody who saw might probably be judging me. But I know those are the most justified and worthy tears I've ever shedded for anybody or anything. I wish I had appreciated you as much as I am now when you were still with us. Being pretty much politically apathetic, it is strange that I am feeling so much for a politician's passing. But then again, you are not just a politician. You are the Father of Singapore, the Father of us all.

I hope you have reunited with your dear wife, rest in peace.

Thank you Mr Lee Kuan Yew.

With all my love, gratitude and utmost respect.
